USA: Shooting Near Boston Festival Injures Five, Investigation Underway
Boston, USA: A shooting near a Boston festival left five people injured, prompting an ongoing search for the perpetrators by police on Monday.
The incident occurred Sunday evening in Franklin Park as a Dominican festival was coming to a close. According to police, three men and two women sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and were transported to a hospital. Authorities have not yet released the victims’ ages or identities.
“We must hold those responsible accountable, whether it’s one person or several who committed this terrible act, recklessly firing into a crowd,” Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox told reporters Sunday night.
Cox mentioned that police officers heard the gunshots as the festival was wrapping up and as they were guiding people out of the park. As of Monday, police had not provided any updates, including whether multiple shooters were involved.
“The shooting marred what was otherwise a successful event,” Cox said. “We’re committed to holding those responsible accountable, and we need the public’s help and support to do so. This kind of violence has no place in our city, especially not in this day and age.”
The shooting occurred amid praise for Boston’s efforts to reduce violent crime over the past year. Last year, the city reported 37 homicides, while only 10 have been recorded so far this year, according to police.
